How Do I Allow Access to a Printer?
Access the Firewall settings and make sure that the Firewall is activated.
- In the Intermediate View, go to the Security tab, then hit the Configure Firewall button.
- From here, go to the Devices tab which automatically detect and make a list of the network devices connected to your network (including printers, scanners and faxes).
- You will be able to access and view the status of all the listed devices. This is where you can add a printer and assign its status in the network: allowed or blocked.
If you have trouble accessing a printer, and you believe it is because of the Firewall, first, check if its status is “allowed”. If you encounter any issues, a troubleshooting wizard will assist you.
- Go to the Firewall section and access the Settings tab.
- From the Settings Tab, access the Firewall Troubleshoot wizard by clicking the Troubleshoot button.
- Select the first option "I am trying to print and the action fails" and click Next.
- If you cannot connect to a network printer, you can use the Find Printer function to discover the available printers in the network. You can click Choose printer and a list with detected printers will be displayed. Select your printer and you will see also the IP or Computer name. Click Add.
- The troubleshooter will indicate the cause of the issue encountered and propose a final solution.
- If no issues are detected, you will be able to deny or allow the access to the respective printer and exit the wizard.
- A typical popup window will be displayed at the right-bottom of the screen confirming the enable or disable rule that has been added to the Firewall rules.
Permissions are set for the shared printer to allow access to specific computer and users only. If you are sharing your printer within a network, you should also check that the permissions set for the printer allow the other computer(s) access to the printer.
